If the premises are currently supplied with fresh water

Applicants canOnline ServicesApply for an account takeover (only for users who apply for residential water or toilet flushing water in their personal name). Normally, the Department will process the application within seven working days.(Note 1).

If there is no fresh water supply to the premises or the supply has been cut off (i.e. the water meter has been removed)

Applicants can submit the completed application form(Note 2),bypost,faxore-mailtogether with a copy of your Hong Kong Identity Card, Passport or Business Registration Certificate (whichever is appropriate) and submit it to the Water Supplies Department. The Department normally processes the application within seven working days.

In person

Applicants can visit any of ourCustomer Service CenterSubmit the completed application form (WWO 1,WWO 1145orWWO 542). Normally, if all required documents are provided, the application can be completed within 15 minutes. If the effective date of the user name change is on or before the application date, the customer can obtain the deposit payment slip on the spot. However, if the effective date of the user name change is one month after the application date, the application will not be processed until an appropriate time in the future, and the relevant deposit payment slip will be sent to the applicant by post after the effective date.

A registered account for residential or toilet flushing water use registered in an individual's name

By post, fax, email or in person

Applicants can submit their completed application form (Form WWO 1145orForm WWO 243) or a letter with the same information, together with the required documents(Note 1)bypost,faxore-mailor submit it in person to any of our officesCustomer Service Center.

Upon receipt of a registered user's application to terminate an account, if the registered user has given 14 days' prior notice, this Department will arrange for the final reading of the relevant water meter to be taken. The termination notice will be sent within three business days after the account closure date. The Department will deduct any outstanding water, sewage and other charges from the deposit. The remaining deposit and any overpayment not exceeding $1,000 (if any) will normally be refunded by crossed cheque to the correspondence address provided by the registered user within nine working days after the issuance of the termination notice. If there is an overpayment of more than $1,000 in the closed account, the former registered user canwrittenWhen applying for a refund of this amount, you will need to provide proof of payment.

If a registered residential user registered in his/her own name is about to leave Hong Kong permanently and cannot wait for the refund of the remaining deposit (not exceeding $500) and/or the overpaid amount not exceeding $1,000, he/she may bring along his/her Hong Kong identity card or passport, deposit receipt (if any) and relevant documents proving his/her departure from Hong Kong to the Department’sWan Chai Customer Enquiry CentreGo through the procedures. The Department will make special arrangements to refund the deposit balance and/or overpaid amount as soon as possible. Please note that we can only refund the deposit balance and/or overpayment in cash if the account has been closed on or before the date of application for refund of deposit balance and/or overpayment.

The existing account is terminated due to the new user taking over the user rights

If a registered user has never applied to terminate his account, but a new resident of the premises has successfully applied to take over the account, the user's account will be terminated. This Office will also send a notice of account termination to the correspondence address of the terminated account, and the subsequent termination slip will notify the former registered user that his account has been terminated.
