About Hongkong Electric
The Hongkong Electric Company Limited(English:The Hongkong Electric Company, Limited, referred to as:HK Electric), founded in 1890, isHK Electric InvestmentsOne of the members. It is one of the two electricity suppliers in Hong Kong (the other isChina Electric Power), responsible for supplying electricity toHong Kong Island(including nearby small islands),Po Toi Island,Ap Lei ChauandLamma Island, and is the only electricity supplier in these areas. The power generation facilities are located on Lamma Island and have a total generating capacity of 3,737 megawatts. Fixed assets: HK$47.9 billion.
On February 16, 2011, the parent company of HK Electric officially changed its English name toPower IndustryLtd. The meaning of Power Assets Holdings, in addition to including electricity and energy, also reflects the company's practicality and strength.
What is the voltage?
The supply voltage is 220 volts single phase and 380 volts three phase 50 Hz AC.
CLP Power
The Hongkong Electric Company Limited supplies electricity to Hong Kong Island and the nearby Ap Lei Chau and Lamma Islands; while the China Light and Power Company Limited supplies electricity to Kowloon and the New Territories, including Lantau Island and several outlying islands.
The power transmission systems of CLP and HK Electric are connected by cross-sea cables. In addition to providing emergency power support, the networking system can also save users money. This is because the two power companies can transfer energy to each other, reducing the amount of operating reserves required to cope with failures of other units, which is more economical. The interconnected system was commissioned in 1981 and currently has a total transmission capacity of 720 MVA (720,000 kVA).

However, if applying for electricity supply to new buildings, construction sites and squatter housing; or applying for electricity supply of larger load (such as three-phase electricity supply), customers must notify HK Electric as soon as possible (please refer to Chapter 3 of this "Guide" for details). If no installation inspection is required, customers can apply for account transfer and we can connect the electricity within the next business day.
- If there is no electricity supply at the location where the power supply is applied for, or the existing power supply equipment cannot provide the customer's required power requirements, HK Electric will plan to install additional power supply equipment to meet the relevant needs. In this case, it may take longer to supply electricity.
- If the power supply equipment needs to be installed on government land, roads or private properties, HK Electric must apply for a permit or consent from the relevant government department or the owner before installing the power supply equipment. This application may extend the time required to supply electricity. This situation is beyond the control of HK Electric but we will provide our customers with the best estimate of the date when electricity will be available from time to time.
